COMPLIANCE MONITORING OFFICER – iBanFirst SA Branch Romania

Job description

We are seeking a Compliance Monitoring Officer for our Bucharest, Romania branch. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our international compliance team to help ensure that our continued growth is grounded in integrity and particularly a robust, sustainable compliance monitoring framework. You will be instrumental in supporting the implementation of this framework in alignment with local regulatory requirements. You will report to the Compliance Officer of the branch.

What you will do

As a Compliance Monitoring Officer, your mission is to support and execute compliance monitoring activities that assess the effectiveness of iBanFirst's compliance framework across its entities. You will contribute to identifying risks and control gaps, producing monitoring outputs, and ensuring ongoing alignment with applicable regulations.

Compliance Monitoring & Controls

  • Execute compliance design & effectiveness monitoring activities in line with the defined control plan: run tests, document it, record and report findings in a structured and traceable manner;
  • Contribute to the definition and update of monitoring controls, tests, and their periodicity, in coordination with the local Compliance officer and the Chief Compliance Officer;
  • Analyse monitoring findings, including KYC review outcomes and AML alerts, identify patterns or anomalies, and escalate them appropriately to the local Compliance officer and the Chief Compliance Officer;
  • Contribute to the preparation of monitoring reports and KPI/KRI dashboards for internal committees, ensuring data accuracy and clarity of presentation;
  • Support the periodic review and update of the Compliance risk map based on monitoring outputs.

Regulatory Watch & Policy

  • Monitor regulatory developments in Romania and at EU level relevant to compliance monitoring (AML/CFT, payment institutions, etc.), and assess their impact on existing controls;
  • Assist in maintaining alignment between local and group-level policies and procedures, flagging any discrepancies identified through monitoring activities;
  • Support the preparation of materials and documentation for regulatory inspections, supervisory reviews, or due diligence audits by banking partners.

Collaboration & Cross-functional Engagement

  • Act as a liaison between the monitoring function and local first-line teams (business and operations) on compliance matters identified through monitoring;
  • Work closely with AFC and first line teams to align on risk indicators and monitoring KPIs;
  • Collaborate with other control functions (risk, internal audit) to ensure coherence and avoid duplication of control efforts;
  • Participate in cross-border compliance and governance projects, contributing monitoring expertise;
  • Participate in training initiatives to promote awareness of compliance monitoring obligations and foster a strong compliance culture within local teams.

What do you bring?

  • You hold a master's degree or equivalent in business law, banking and financial law, financial economics, or a related field;
  • You have 3 to 5 years of experience in compliance or audit, with a focus on compliance monitoring, permanent controls, or AML/CFT;
  • You have a solid understanding of AML/CFT regulatory frameworks, including:
    • Legea nr. 129/2019 pentru prevenirea și combaterea spălării banilor și finanțării terorismului;
    • NBR Regulation No. 2/2019 on the prevention and combating of money laundering and terrorist financing;
    • EU AML Directives and related EBA guidelines
  • You have practical experience in designing or executing control tests and documenting findings;
  • You are rigorous, well-organised, and comfortable working with data and producing structured reports;
  • You have strong analytical skills and are able to synthesise complex information into actionable insights;
  • You are proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with GRC or monitoring tools is a plus;
  • You are fluent in English and Romanian; French is a plus;
  • A professional certification such as CAMS, ICA, or equivalent is a plus.
