Lead Delivery Engineer — Mechelen (Hybrid)

The Role

You'll lead the technical delivery of customer projects while managing a small, high-performing team of engineers.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll stay close to the technology — guiding design, reviewing code, and shaping solutions — while also taking ownership of delivery, people, and how work gets done.

You'll:

• Own delivery for customer projects or key modules, ensuring work is delivered on time and to the right standard of quality
• Lead from the front technically, supporting design decisions, reviewing code, and keeping standards high
• Manage and grow a small team (typically 3–4 engineers), providing day-to-day guidance and coaching
• Translate customer needs into clear, workable plans alongside project managers and stakeholders
• Keep delivery on track, managing risks early and maintaining strong project discipline across the team
• Contribute to how we improve — refining processes, tooling, and ways of working as we scale
• Champion the adoption of AI-assisted engineering workflows (we use Claude across the delivery lifecycle), helping your team work smarter, ship faster, and stay ahead
• Operate with a high level of autonomy, making both technical and delivery decisions within your scope, and escalating where needed
• Work on our Transaction Observability platform, built in Java on Elasticsearch, Apache Kafka, and Kubernetes

About You

You're an experienced engineer who has stepped into leadership and wants to build on it — someone who still enjoys the technical side but is equally motivated by helping a team deliver well.

You'll likely bring:

• A strong software engineering background (typically 5+ years), with some experience leading people or projects
• Confidence working in customer-facing delivery environments
• Solid understanding of modern engineering practices — design, code quality, and agile delivery
• Experience coordinating work across a team and keeping delivery structured and on track
• The ability to balance technical depth with people leadership
• Genuine curiosity about AI-assisted development — you don't need to be an expert, but you're eager to explore how tools like Claude can accelerate delivery

• Clear and credible in how you communicate, with both engineers and stakeholders
• Comfortable taking ownership and making decisions
• Someone who leads by example rather than stepping back from the work
• Motivated by building strong teams and delivering work that makes a real difference
