Senior QA Automation Engineer
Nairobi, Kenya
At Vyntra, we help financial institutions across the world fight fraud, prevent money laundering, and gain full visibility into every transaction. Our AI-powered platform combines advanced fraud detection with large-scale transactional data observability, giving banks the tools to build trust, stay compliant, and operate with confidence.
As a Senior QA Automation Engineer, you'll play a hands-on role in ensuring the reliability and quality of products that underpin critical financial crime prevention and transaction observability. Working closely with product development teams, you'll test new features, analyse behaviour across complex transactional data flows, and make smart decisions about when to use manual testing, when to automate, and how to build repeatable, robust quality checks.
This role suits someone who enjoys understanding how systems work beneath the surface. Someone who is equally comfortable building automation frameworks as they are carrying out exploratory testing, investigating defects, and improving quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
You'll join a collaborative engineering environment where QA is embedded within product development rather than operating as a separate function. The team works closely with developers, Product Managers and platform engineers in Agile squads to ensure quality is built into delivery from the very beginning.
What you'll do
- Design, develop and maintain automated tests for web, API and integration testing.
- Own the testing of new and existing product functionality using a combination of automated and manual testing techniques.
- Build and enhance automation frameworks, identifying opportunities to improve coverage, reliability and maintainability.
- Validate releases, patches and fixes across complex transactional systems.
- Work closely with Product Managers, developers and engineers to understand requirements, clarify expected behaviour and ensure high-quality releases.
- Execute exploratory, regression, integration and end-to-end testing.
- Investigate defects, perform root cause analysis and work with developers to resolve issues.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to provide fast, reliable feedback throughout the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to improving QA processes, tooling and engineering best practices across the team.
- Operate as an embedded member of an Agile engineering squad, contributing throughout the software development lifecycle rather than only at release stage.
What you'll bring
- 5+ years' commercial experience in Software Quality Assurance, including significant hands-on automation testing experience.
- Strong experience building and maintaining automated tests using Playwright or Selenium.
- Experience writing automation code in Java (preferred), JavaScript or Python.
- Experience designing, extending or maintaining automation frameworks rather than simply executing automated test suites.
- Strong API testing experience using tools such as RestAssured, Postman or similar.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
- Experience working with Docker or containerised development environments.
- Experience testing complex web applications, distributed systems or transaction-based platforms.
- Ability to balance automation with exploratory and manual testing where appropriate.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum teams in close collaboration with software engineers.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within distributed international teams.
Technical experience
You'll ideally have experience with many of the following:
- Java
- Playwright and/or Selenium
- API testing (RestAssured, Postman or similar)
- SQL and database validation
- Regression, integration and exploratory testing
- CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- Docker
- Git
- TestNG, JUnit or similar
- Jira and test management tools
Nice to have
- Experience with Kafka, MQ, Elastic or other distributed messaging technologies.
- Experience with performance or load testing tools such as JMeter or k6.
- Exposure to Kubernetes, Helm or cloud-native environments.
- Experience contributing to shift-left quality practices within engineering teams.
- Experience within financial services, banking, payments or fintech environments.
