Job Description
As a Senior Data Engineer within Visa’s Open Banking AI & Data Platform domain, based in Stockholm, Sweden, you will play a key role in designing, building, and evolving our next‑generation data platform. You will work hands‑on with complex data systems that support a wide range of use cases, including data warehousing, real‑time and batch data processing, analytical event systems, advanced data modelling, and infrastructure management.
You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and partners across engineering, compliance, and AI to deliver secure, compliant, and scalable data solutions that meet the needs of the Open Banking landscape. You will contribute to architectural design discussions, apply established patterns and standards, and help ensure that solutions meet performance, reliability, security, and regulatory requirements.
As a senior individual contributor, you are expected to take ownership of complex technical problems, deliver high‑quality and maintainable solutions, and support less‑experienced engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing. You will actively contribute to improving engineering practices, platform capabilities, and operational excellence, while aligning your work with Visa’s broader technical strategy.
The Senior Data Engineer contributes to the technical design and implementation of the Open Banking AI & Data Platform, working within established architectural frameworks and enterprise standards. The role supports architectural reviews, helps ensure solutions meet requirements for security, scalability, resilience, and operational readiness, and identifies opportunities to improve platform quality and reduce technical debt. Acting as an experienced engineer within the domain, the role partners closely with Engineering, Product, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to deliver well‑designed and auditable data solutions. The Senior Data Engineer provides technical input, supports best‑practice adoption, mentors engineers through code reviews and design discussions, and represents the team in cross‑functional initiatives when needed.
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
Qualifications
Strong experience in data engineering and data architecture, including data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data lakes in enterprise environments. Solid understanding of building secure, compliant, and resilient data systems, with exposure to privacy and regulatory requirements such as GDPR and PSD2. Hands on experience with data processing frameworks and languages (e.g. Spark, Hadoop, SQL, Python/Scala/Java) and event driven or streaming platforms (e.g. Kafka, Kinesis). Good knowledge of data modelling, schema design, master data concepts, and metadata management. Practical experience working with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation). Familiarity with AI/ML data pipelines and supporting machine learning workloads in production environments. Proven ability to work independently on complex technical tasks, contribute to design decisions, and deliver solutions end to end. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non technical stakeholders. Relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. Professional certifications are a plus.
