- The Visa Digital Benefits Platform (VDBP) powers benefits management for issuers and cardholders globally. We build mission‑critical systems banks rely on to configure, manage, and deliver cardholder benefits across every region—backed by the 6+ billion transactions Visa processes daily.
- We are looking for a Lead Engineer to drive VDBP’s evolution into a multitenant, multiregional, highly automated, AI‑augmented platform.
- You will own technical direction within VDBP application domain, contribute hands‑on at a high level, define platform architecture and align it through our Architecture Guild, and lead through execution and example.
- This is Director level Individual Contributor role that can move to include line management as the team grows.
- This is a hybrid position. Expectation of 60% office work.
- Own system design for multitenant, multiregional deployments, aligning decisions through the Architecture Guild.
- Design, build, and deliver end‑to‑end features across Angular micro-frontends, Java/Spring services, REST/SOAP APIs, Kafka pipelines, and MySQL.
- Lead modernization efforts including micro-frontends, CI/CD automation (GitHub Actions), Infrastructure‑as‑Code, Kubernetes deployments, and expanded test automation beyond Playwright.
- Champion AI‑powered development workflows, experience with agentic or autonomous coding systems is a plus.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, architectural guidance, and hands‑on delivery.
- Java, Spring Boot, Angular, TypeScript, Kafka, MySQL, REST, SOAP, Kubernetes, Docker, GitHub Actions, Playwright, Hybrid Cloud
What We are Looking For:
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to identify problems and drive solutions to completion.
- Proven full stack experience shipping and maintaining Java/Spring backends and modern frontends (Angular preferred).
- Solid distributed systems instincts, including multitenancy, RBAC, and multiregional trade‑offs.
- Platform engineering experience with CI/CD, Kubernetes/Docker, and Infrastructure‑as‑Code.
- Test automation experience (Playwright or similar) and sound coverage judgment.
- Active use of AI in daily development workflows.
- Clear, direct communication and the ability to influence across technical and non‑technical audiences.
- 10+ years with a bachelor’s degree, 8+ years with an Advanced Degree, or 3+ years with a PhD.
- Extensive experience as a hands‑on Full Stack Engineer or similar senior technical role.
- Experience with SQL and relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL).
- Experience with on‑prem and/or cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern DevSecOps practices.
- Experience working in a product‑led model with UX and product partners.
- Background in payments, mediatech or fintech.
- Production experience with multitenant SaaS or multiregion platforms.
- Track record of establishing CI/CD and test automation practices within a team.
