Job Description

What is it all about?

The Senior Director, Acceptance Segment Lead is a senior commercial leadership role within Visa Europe’s Acceptance Centre of Excellence (CoE). Reporting to the VP, Acceptance CoE – Europe, this role provides pan-European leadership for a priority merchant segment, acting as the single, expert voice for that segment across Europe. Europe represents a significant growth opportunity for Visa as the payments landscape continues to evolve, driven by the acceleration of digital commerce, new payment experiences, changing consumer expectations and increasing complexity across merchant business models. To capture this opportunity, Visa Europe has established the Acceptance CoE to deepen segment expertise, strengthen merchant and acquirer engagement, and drive more consistent, scalable growth across the region.

The Segment Lead plays a critical role in delivering this ambition by defining and executing a clear segment growth strategy, identifying and scaling new revenue opportunities, and enabling clusters to win in a fastmoving and competitive market. Working in close partnership with clusters, Account Executives and cross-functional teams, the role focuses on translating market insight and innovation into tangible commercial outcomes for Visa and its clients. The segments may vary and at this stage, this role will be focused on a mix of luxury, retail, entertainment and other priority segments.

What We Expect Of You, Day By Day

Segment Strategy & Leadership

  • Own and lead the Europe-wide strategy for the assigned segment, aligned to Visa Europe growth priorities and the Acceptance CoE roadmap.
  • Act as the senior subject matter expert and advocate for the segment, representing merchant and acquirer needs in regional and global forums.
  • Build strong alignment across clusters, ensuring consistent execution of segment priorities while respecting local account ownership and reporting lines.

Commercial Growth & Revenue Delivery

  • Deliver shared regional revenue targets for the segment, in close collaboration with cluster sales teams, Account Executives and Business Development.
  • Identify, prioritise and drive scalable growth opportunities, including new use cases, products, partnerships and business models relevant to the segment.
  • Develop compelling value propositions and segment specific sales plays that improve win rates and deal velocity across markets.

Pipeline & Business Development

  • Build and maintain a high quality, pan European segment pipeline, supporting clusters on deal strategy, solutioning and execution.
  • Improve conversion and win rates by bringing together product expertise, market insight and commercial storytelling.
  • Partner with Business Development to identify new segment entrants, long-tail opportunities and potential cobrand or ecosystem partnerships.

Client & Partner Engagement

  • Strengthen senior level relationships with key merchants, acquirers and payment enablers within the segment.
  • Lead structured client engagement, including segment level account planning, executive briefings and QBRs.
  • Represent Visa externally through industry events, client forums and thought leadership relevant to the segment.

Enablement & Centre of Excellence Role

  • Act as a core pillar of the Acceptance CoE, enabling clusters to execute segment strategies at scale.
  • Deliver regular segment specific enablement, training and best practice sharing across Europe.
  • Partner closely with Product, VAS, CMS and other cross functional teams to scale acceptance and commerce solutions tailored to the segment.

  • Strong understanding of the payments value chain, including card acceptance, digital wallets, authentication, e-commerce and in-store solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage credibly with senior merchant and acquirer stakeholders and influence without direct authority.
