Job Description

The Head of Cross-Border (XB) for Europe is responsible for driving Europe’s cross-border growth by owning the regional XB strategy, targets, and execution. This role acts as the regional bridge between Global XB strategy and in-market delivery, ensuring global priorities, frameworks, and playbooks are tailored for Europe and executed consistently across clusters and markets.

The role serves as Europe’s XB Centre of Excellence, providing strategic leadership, commercial expertise, and execution governance across Issuer, Travel, Merchant, and corridor-led initiatives, while coaching cluster XB teams and supporting priority client engagements.

Ideally this position would be based in London, however we are open to flexibility depending on the candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Europe XB Strategy & Ownership

  • Own Europe’s XB ambition, strategic priorities, targets, and success metrics across Issuing, Travel, eCommerce, and Merchant XB
  • Define Europe-specific strategic approaches where required (e.g. issuer attack models, multi-currency approaches, XB-rich merchant partnerships, Visa preference)

XB Targets, OKRs & Governance

  • Own regional XB targets and ensure Cross-Border inclusion in regional and cluster OKRs, scorecards, and investment prioritization
  • Drive cascade of XB priorities and targets to Account Executives for all priority issuer, acquirer, and merchant accounts
  • Establish governance cadence to track performance, manage dependencies, and course-correct execution

Regional XB Execution & Delivery

  • Accountable for building and driving the Europe XB execution plan, incorporating local market input
  • Own execution across XB Attack Plans, Issuer Cross-Border Value Propositions (CVPs), and Visa Destinations initiatives
  • Act as senior commercial owner for complex strategic XB deals (Issuer and Merchant)

Travel, Issuer CVP & Visa Destinations

  • Own Europe’s Travel-led XB agenda, spanning issuer CVPs, destinations, and corridor strategies
  • Own Europe Visa Destinations strategy, approach, and program governance in partnership with Hub Product, XB Marketing, and clusters
  • Support senior client conversations on Travel CVPs and Visa Destinations where required

XB Key Corridors

  • Define and execute Europe’s priority XB corridor strategy
  • Ensure key corridors are launched, governed, and delivered against agreed KRs, including GCC–Western Europe, LAC–Spain, and NA–Western Europe (subject to alignment with NA)

XB Centre of Excellence & Sales Enablement

  • Serve as Europe’s XB Centre of Excellence, providing sales, strategy, and execution support to markets
  • Develop and scale self-service enablement tools including dashboards, sales narratives, templates, and playbooks
  • Develop and launch XB Sales Plays in partnership with clusters and cross-functional teams

Measurement & Localization

  • Own Europe’s localization mitigation agenda, including development and ongoing review of localization mitigation plans
  • Establish and embed a consistent measurement framework for XB initiatives and campaigns with Marketing, XB, and Product
  • Improve XB survey outputs to be more hypothesis-driven with clear implications for strategic direction and investment

People Leadership & Capability Build

  • Coach and develop cluster-level XB teams to raise capability, consistency, and execution quality
  • Build sustainable XB execution capability across Europe
  • Act as functional leader and mentor for Europe XB talent
