Job Description

The Opportunity

As a Sr Software Engineer, you will be part of a cross‑functional Agile team responsible for building and supporting software components and features within Visa’s network automation ecosystem. You will contribute to backend services and user interfaces that support infrastructure automation, observability, and operational efficiency, while developing your technical skills and understanding of Visa’s engineering standards.

The Work You’ll Do

Software Development & Implementation

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain well‑scoped software components and features under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Implement backend services and RESTful APIs using established frameworks and patterns.
  • Develop and enhance user interface components using modern frontend technologies (e.g., Angular or React), following existing design guidelines.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and secure code aligned with team standards.

Requirements & Design Support

  • Collaborate with product owners, technical leads, and peers to understand requirements for assigned features or components.
  • Assist in translating functional requirements into technical implementations for individual services or modules.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and design artifacts for assigned work, with guidance.

Quality & Engineering Practices

  • Participate in code reviews to learn best practices and improve code quality.
  • Write and maintain unit tests and basic integration tests for owned components.
  • Follow established CI-CD pipelines and development workflows used by the team.

Operations & Support

  • Support production systems for owned components under guidance, including participation in on‑call rotations.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of incidents alongside senior engineers.
  • Follow established operational procedures to help maintain system stability and reliability.

Learning & Professional Growth

  • Build foundational knowledge in distributed systems, automation platforms, and infrastructure‑focused software.
  • Learn to responsibly use AI‑assisted development tools for coding, testing, and documentation in alignment with team practices.
  • Actively seek feedback, participate in knowledge‑sharing sessions, and continuously improve technical skills.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)

Experience contributing to enterprise or cloud‑based software projects.

Exposure to Agile or DevOps‑oriented development environments.

The Skills You Bring

Required Skills

Strong hands‑on experience in full‑stack development, including:

Backend: Python, REST APIs, JSON, Flask-RESTPlus

Frontend: JavaScript, HTML5, Angular or React

Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and at least one modern frontend framework (Angular or React).

Familiarity with version control systems, testing fundamentals, and Agile development practices.

Strong problem‑solving ability and eagerness to learn.

Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a team.

Preferred Skills

Exposure to CI-CD tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins) and automated build pipelines.

Experience with cloud platforms, containers, or infrastructure‑related software.

Basic familiarity with automation, observability, or reliability concepts.
