Job Description
The Manager, Netherlands, Government Affairs is a full-time role based in Amsterdam, reporting to the Director, Government Affairs, Central Europe. Some travel in the region may be required from time to time as the role is part of the broader Visa Europe Government Affairs team.
This role will support Visa’s Government Affairs activity in the Netherlands and contribute to the execution of Visa’s wider Europe Government Affairs strategy. The role requires close collaboration with the Netherlands business, Central Europe colleagues, Government Affairs market leads across Europe, subject matter experts, and the Government Affairs team in Brussels.
The role will help support strategic engagement with Dutch political, regulatory and industry stakeholders, contribute to policy analysis and advocacy, and help ensure that policy frameworks in the Netherlands are conducive to a fair, competitive and successful operating environment for Visa’s current and future business.

Job Description

Visa as a critical partner
- Support the development and implementation of a Government Affairs plan for the Netherlands, in close coordination with the Director, Government Affairs, Central Europe and relevant business leaders.
- Help prepare strategic engagement with key Dutch government, regulatory and policy stakeholders for country management, regional leadership and other functional leaders.
- Contribute to opportunities that demonstrate the value of Visa to government partners, regulators and wider policy stakeholders.
- Support Visa’s presence at relevant political, policy and industry events, working closely with Government Affairs colleagues and Corporate Affairs functions as appropriate.
- Prepare briefing materials, talking points and stakeholder notes for internal and external engagements.
- Monitor the external political, policy and regulatory environment in the Netherlands and identify developments relevant to Visa’s business.
- Support the assessment of risks and opportunities for Visa’s business objectives, working with Government Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, Communications and business colleagues.
- Contribute to policy analysis, consultation responses, position papers and other advocacy materials.
- Work alongside the business to support growth ambitions and help position Visa as a trusted partner to governments.
- Work in alignment with Visa Government Solutions to support appropriate engagement with public sector stakeholders.
- Support partnerships with client directors, country management and regional leadership to understand key client and market priorities.
- Contribute to ongoing Government Affairs engagement with key clients where aligned with Government Affairs priorities and strategies.
- Help identify opportunities to showcase Visa’s Government Affairs expertise and credentials in support of client and stakeholder relationships.
- Support internal coordination to ensure that policy and regulatory developments are communicated in a timely, clear and actionable way.
- Work constructively across functions, markets and regions in a matrixed environment.
- Share know-how and policy insights with Government Affairs colleagues in other markets and regions.
- Contribute to the continuous enhancement of the Government Affairs function, toolkit and ways of working.
- Support timely and targeted communication with executives and business leaders on relevant regulatory, policy and engagement developments.
- Maintain focus on the broader strategic picture while supporting practical execution.
- Promote diversity and inclusion in all engagements.
Qualifications
Experience and Skills
- Fluent Dutch and English are essential.
- Mid-level experience in a relevant public policy, government affairs, regulatory affairs, corporate affairs, consultancy, trade association, government, regulator or in-house corporate role.
- Good understanding of the Dutch political, policy and regulatory environment and the dynamics of decision-making.
- Experience supporting stakeholder engagement with policymakers, regulators, industry associations or public sector stakeholders.
- Strong interest in digital services, technology, financial services and/or payments; knowledge of the payments industry is a plus but not essential.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across a multi-disciplinary, matrixed organisation.
- Good analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex policy and regulatory developments into clear internal insights.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise briefing materials and presentations.
- Good interpersonal skills and stakeholder management experience.
- Ability to act independently and flexibly, while knowing when to escalate and seek guidance.
- A relevant degree in Politics, Economics, Law, Public Policy, European Studies or a related field is desirable, but not essential.
