The Small Business team for the US and Canada is dedicated to empowering issuers, merchants, FinTech's, and processors to elevate their support for small business clients. We are looking for an experienced Sales leader who can spearhead business development strategies, secure essential resources, and forge impactful partnerships aimed at driving Small Business growth and digital transformation. Overview:
The Director, Small Business, Business Development plays a pivotal role in supporting the growth of Visa’s payment volume within the Small Business segment. Reporting to the Senior Director, Small Business - Business Development for North America, this role contributes to strategic initiatives and works closely with internal teams and external partners to advance Visa’s presence in the small business ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the execution of the Small Business sales strategy and pipeline to help drive revenue growth.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director, Small Business - BUsiness Development, to align efforts with broader organizational goals.
  • Contribute to the achievement of key performance indicators including revenue, payment volume, and partner engagement.
  • Assist in delivering tailored solutions that meet prospective clients’ business objectives while educating them on Visa’s offerings.
  • Participate in the development, negotiation, and execution of partnership proposals by coordinating with internal stakeholders and engaging with partner executives.
  • Work alongside cross-functional teams to ensure partner solutions are aligned with Visa’s strategy and client needs.
  • Help identify and address complex challenges that impact business direction and partner relationships.
  • Provide insights and updates to internal teams on market trends and partnership opportunities.
  • Maintain regular communication with senior leadership to share progress and key developments.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships across client organizations and within Visa.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain and update the Small Business sales pipeline using Dynamics CRM.
  • Serve as a key contributor within the Small Business sales team, supporting business development efforts and helping to implement strategies that generate new revenue.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and senior leaders to share market insights and support strategic initiatives.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of customized business development plans and joint roadmaps to unlock new opportunities.
  • Apply a strong understanding of Small Business payment needs and trends—including credit, debit, and virtual solutions—to identify areas for growth.
  • Support clients in shaping their payment strategies in alignment with Visa’s vision and leadership principles.
  • Help expand client relationships through the promotion and implementation of Visa products and services.
  • Continuously assess client strategies and market conditions to recommend innovative approaches that meet shared objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams across Innovation, Strategic Partnerships, Product, Cobrand, Operations, Market Research, and Technology.
  • Coordinate joint executive meetings to explore innovation strategies and partnership opportunities.
  • Contribute to internal projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Assist in preparing proposals and supporting contract negotiations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
  • Experienced, results-oriented leader with typically 15 years progressively responsible experience and a proven track record in developing relationships and sales partnerships, managing clients/accounts and executing go to market plans in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Previous experience working in financial services, fintech, payments or large national financial institutions preferred, background in working with high-performance fast-paced teams.
  • Previous experience of working with Small Business card products or within the Small Business segment
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and leadership skills to build business relationships, trust, and respect with business partners and suppliers
  • Demonstrated track record of planning, managing and closing a complex, competitive sales effort and managing deals from negotiation, to closing and through delivery
  • Proven ability to partner, communicate and manage/navigate through multiple disciplines and organizational groups
  • Experience managing up, building Executive Level communications and delivering presentations
  • Ability to work within a complex and often ambiguous environment, and to influence senior management and other relevant parties
  • Executive presence, Strong written and oral communication, including large-group presentations

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 217,800 to 316,300 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
