A unique opportunity exists to join Visa and the SMT market cluster (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand), one of Asia Pacific's, and the world's, fastest growing commerce and digital payments ecosystems. Strong economic growth, rapid social and demographic change, complex payments regulation, intense competition and rapid acceleration of digital commerce make these markets some of the most exciting in the world.
The Business Planning and Operations (BPO) function oversees medium to long term strategy development, supports cross-functional teams in executing that strategy, drives thought leadership and ensures successful ongoing business operations. The team also partners with corporate functions within Visa to develop and enhance best practices leveraging the full suite of expertise that the business requires, such as Marketing, Legal, Finance, Technology, Risk, People, Client Services and Communications.
What a Senior Director, Business Planning and Operations for SMT Cluster does at Visa:
The Senior Director, Business Planning and Operations for SMT will be entrusted with a broad portfolio of responsibilities to accelerate growth, drive and mitigate both short and long-term opportunities and challenges to ensure the cluster’s business performance is optimized.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the SMT leadership team, working closely with the Country and Functional leadership teams within SMT, as well as their broader teams across the region, to understand market landscapes, assist with Go-to-Market strategies that can help accelerate growth in their respective markets, and execution of key strategic initiatives, including but not limited to business/market expansion, organizational re-design, multi-year strategic planning, and capability building. The successful candidate will also work in close collaboration with the corporate functions, to develop and manage scorecards and targets, performance management measures and metrics, and developing reporting and executive communication formats and cadences. This position reports to the Group Country Manager of SMT.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic development and refinement: Lead the development and refinement of the cluster's medium to long term strategy leveraging Visa's Asia Pacific and Global corporate strategy. Tailor the cluster strategy to local market contexts across each of the cluster's five markets considering factors including but not limited to: regulatory context, digital ecosystem evolution, client and stakeholder needs.
- Support the Group Country Manager (GCM) in business planning, strategy development and to achieve agreed targets including with matrixed functions to support the strategic business goals of Visa.
- Improve effectiveness of operational management of the SMT Leadership Team through partnering and directing key stakeholders and building strong and collaborative relationships with the leadership teams
- In partnership with other Asia Pacific leaders, develop a strategic roadmap to improve business performance and client experience with SMT. Develop business cases, manage development/deployment of initiatives and provide ongoing support as needed. Continually audit performance and identify technology trends and solutions that may be applicable to drive growth.
- Lead key strategic assessments and initiatives across SMT, including program and project management.
- Work in partnership with Finance and People teams to establish formal approach to business planning including workforce/location planning, budget management, KPI monitoring, operational and process improvements.
- Ongoing monitoring and actions relating to QBRs / MYPs / AOP / Cluster Scorecard. Ensure focus on important variances, trends, issues.
- Work cross functionally, including close coordination with Global and Regional BPO’s.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both home and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office three days a week, Monday (Sunday in some countries where Sunday is the start of the week) and Wednesdays. Wednesdays are designated as in-office collaboration days. The third day in the office will be decided
Qualifications
- 13 to 15 years of business experience, preferably with payments and / or digital commerce background.
- Proven track record of delivering high impact results working on projects in the areas of corporate strategy, growth initiatives and new market/segment/business strategies will be an advantage
- Deep project leadership skills, with the ability and comfort to ‘work in ambiguity’
- Strong collaboration skills with ability to build positive working relationships with cross functional teams and stakeholders across geographies. To that end, prior experience of working in a global/matrix management structure will help
- Excellent verbal and exceptional written communication skills, and demonstrated analytical skills, with the ability to clearly communicate to stakeholders across levels
- Strong ‘bias for results’ through effective planning and attention to detail
- Ability to proactively ‘figure things out’ by showing self-motivation and initiative, and comfortable working with ambiguity
- Robust decision-making and analytical skills.
- Strong command of financial, market and consumer data with the ability to grasp complex and detailed issues. Financially literate with an excellent understanding of risk management.
- Experience of working in a global matrix organization with the ability to navigate complex structures and empower decision-making locally.
- Experience of leading change programs within a business and has led a team on a journey of cultural and transformational change.
