Job Description

What a Senior Director, Head of Marketing, Malaysia, does at Visa

The Senior Director, Head of Marketing for our business in Malaysia is accountable for the strategy setting and execution oversight of Visa’s brand, solutions and client marketing activities (B2B). We are looking for a well-rounded marketing leader, adept at both brand marketing, B2B marketing and marketing consultancy/ servicing.

You will report to the Head of Marketing, SMT cluster (Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand) and the Country Manager of Visa Malaysia, to accelerate business growth, with a profit and loss (P&L) mindset focused on optimizing team performance and marketing investment. This is a senior role and you will be part of the Visa Malaysia leadership team. You will drive brand consistency, local market relevance and client centricity within the organization by understanding the evolving payment ecosystem and changing customer needs. You will also be responsible for achieving marketing services revenue targets, which is a value-added services consultancy-based function that quantifies the level of engagement that our clients have with our marketing practice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop marketing strategies for Malaysia that support the achievement of business and brand objectives, focusing on key initiatives that are aligned to strategic initiatives, as agreed with Country, Regional, and Global Leadership.
  • Support Malaysia Country Management in achievement of business priorities and revenue and growth targets.
  • Deliver the Marketing Services revenue target by leveraging Visa’s marketing services (Sponsorships, Creative Services, Research & Insights, Marketing Advisory) in partnership with Visa Consultancy & Analytics (VCA) and the regional marketing team.
  • Manage the development, and timely on-forecast implementation of integrated marketing plans for Malaysia, to support the agreed marketing strategies and achievement of business and brand objectives.
  • Local management and activation of Visa's global and regional sponsorship properties in line with terms and conditions of our global sponsorships and activation guidelines.
  • Leadership and management of the Malaysian marketing team, nurturing and developing talent, both within the marketing function and across the wider SMT community.
  • Work across functions and establish influence and impact with global, regional, and local marketing teams.
  • Management of the Visa Malaysia marketing budget, including coordination and management of budgets focused on delivering marketing services for our clients, forecasting, financial reporting, and adherence to Visa’s financial policies.
  • Evaluation of marketing strategies and campaigns against agreed business and brand objectives, maximize return of investment from marketing activities through the optimization of marketing budget allocation by market, by activity and by media channel.
  • Management of all marketing agency relationships across Malaysia.
  • Full compliance with global brand identity, audit and compliance requirements.
  • Serve as the marketing thought leader within the Malaysia country team, fostering innovation and strategic alignment with the regional marketing team in Singapore.
  • Drive excellence in project management, campaign reporting, and ROI tracking using standardized templates, methodology, and a test-and-learn approach.

Qualifications

  • Degree or master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Marketing Communication preferred
  • Minimum 12-15+ years of proven experience including leadership roles in consumer and client marketing management, ideally within top-tier Financial Services, Payments, Technology, or FMCG industries.
  • Passion for Visa’s business and technology innovation, with high energy and strategic thinking.
  • Deep domain expertise and proven experience in building brands, managing great creative work, effective partnership in managing agencies across creative, media, digital, research, and below-the-line activities
  • Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and presentation—with the ability to engage and inspire stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed organization and work collaboratively across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels – comfortable working on operational coordination work as well as leading high-impact strategic initiatives.
  • Inclusive leader with a track record of building, empowering, and developing high-performing, diverse teams.
  • High attention to detail, ownership mindset, and situational awareness in navigating dynamic environments.
